Maggie Allred: Speaking Up, Standing Up

When it comes to living her values, Mansfield, Ohio, native Maggie Allred is experienced beyond her years. The 17-year-old is a new high-school graduate and a staunch supporter of women’s rights AND the power of free speech. Her core values shape who inspires her—people who aren’t afraid to stand up and use their voice. This spring, like millions of other students, she finished her school year online. This fall, she’ll vote in her first election. For her photo, she picked a recent, but pre-COVID-19, image, taken and posted online by a stranger. It represents a story that sheds light on her courage, hope—and frustration—in a tense and uncomfortable moment.
