Jazmin Carney

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:

“Hi, my name is Jasmine Carney, and I chose this image because it is one that reflects a piece of my heart. One of my favorite things in the world to do is to be in the air, to be flying or en route to some type of travel. It's a very serene place. And when you think of underprivileged neighborhoods, and you think about the people who are around and who look like me, they don't, they don't travel as often, or they don't get the opportunity to do it as often, especially those who live in this particular neighborhood or ones like it. And so one of the things that I always try to encourage people and let them know is it is possible. It does not matter where you are from. It is always possible to get out and travel. You know, you save you, you plan for it, but you can do it. The symbolism in itself. When you look at the picture, and you look at how close it is all of the lights, they represent landmarks, they represent homes and houses and people. So when you look down at it, you see just how big and how, I guess, intricate it can be when you consider neighborhoods and different pieces of people. So while you're looking down, though, it looks rather small. When you get into it, it is huge, like it is huge clusters and. Neighborhoods of people. And so when I think about that, when I think about how, how, on one level, looking down, it looks so small, but when you get into the heart of it, and you actually you know whether you're walking the streets or whether you're driving through it, etc, how intricate the parts become the closer to the neighborhood, or the closer to the people you get, it becomes astounding. But that's why one of my favorite places to be is in the sky, because it gives you a different perspective, especially when you start to look around and get into the heart of things,”
