PEOPLE POWER
Yvonne Trollinger
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
“I moved to the McHenry House six years ago. I was very sick; I was going into the hospital. They were so kind. When I came home, I wouldn't be able to go to my house because I wouldn't be able to walk up the stairs anymore. So I came here and I applied for an apartment, and in about four weeks, they gave me an apartment—not just an apartment, but they gave me one that was built for someone with disabilities. So it really worked out for me. Otherwise, I would have to have been in a nursing home. I really enjoy it because everything is local. For me, my doctor's offices and everything. I go to the local Kingdom Hall here. I have family in this area. And I love people. And I like to help people and share things. And so I guess [my people power] is my generosity, my time. When I know someone's having a problem.—they've lost someone, anything else—I don't wait for them to come to me. I go to them.”
