A LEGACY OF COMMUNITY & OPPORTUNITY
Hillcrest Elderly
Ethel Cook
From the interview:
“My husband and I lived in an apartment on Stillwell. I chose the community because the trees on the streets were so beautiful. . . When I retired from work, I’m now 75—I had to leave at 62 because I was wore out. I had a partial lung removal. I just couldn’t breathe anymore. My last job was with Kroger for eight years.”
“I enjoy living here. I really like the programs they have going on in the building, but I also joined the Louise Bland Center at New Prospect Church.. . I had come through a bad time in my life when I lost my husband. . . . Louise Bland was a member of New Prospect Church who decided that she wanted a place for seniors to have a place to come. So she gave the first $5 to start the opening of that. Anyway, that was a godsend for me.”
