“I wanted to talk about the Poro Beauty School. Back in the day they had Madam CJ Walker, but here in Cincinnati, we had Poro. Miss Anamarie Moore moved to Cincinnati from a Columbus, Mississippi in 1944. And she went to Poro, where she learned the art of doing hair. And she was a beautician from about 1946 to about 1970.

“Every woman that wanted to make a life for her family, for her children, she became a beautician. That's when we were really entrepreneurs.”
