MIDDIE PRIDE

service to community

Dwan W. Johnson

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:

I grew up in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School in 1982. I've been part of the Elks organization for over 20 years, and I’m very proud to be a member. It represents years of dedication and community service throughout Middletown.

This photo was taken when I received an award on November 16, 2024. It was for my service as a deputy in Ohio, and I was one of three deputies recognized during the National District Deputies Conference in North Carolina, which is the headquarters of our Elks organization. Dana B. Johnson, an elder from Augusta, Georgia, traveled to read my bio. I’m holding a plaque that thanks me for my service and commitment to the national Elks organization. The photo captures that moment, surrounded by fellow members.

I just love Middletown. The community comes together to address different issues and always strives to make the city better. It has always been home. Even though I left for grad school in Louisiana and worked in various cities, I’m now retired from the state of Ohio and grateful to be back in Middletown, where I plan to continue serving.
