MIDDIE PRIDE

you invest in something

Joseph Harris

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:

The picture shows young men in our community joined together to enlighten our youth in a particular sport, that was basketball. We invited the kids in our community to a basketball camp that was sponsored by a few men within the community, a few leaders in the community.

I was at a point where I could give back in a multitude of ways. So in doing so, I was presented with the opportunity to partner with a young man who had an organization called Breaking the Cycle. At the time, I had a good job, I was working, I had time to contribute to what his cause was—it's the same cause that I had. That's what brought us together.

We are Middies, and those who are coming up behind us, there are certain skills and information that we feel they should know–about living Middletown, and playing sports, and the pride that we have in the long history of Middletown and sports in our community.  It embodies not just the physical, but the spiritual. You know, the heart that you gotta have to say, I'm a Middletown Middie. And you invested something in that.
