ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
“My name is Beverly Jones. My last name was Wilson when we moved into the community. I was in the second grade and at the time I remember a sign that said Western hills. It wasn't a long after that, that the community was rezoned to West wood. And I was there naturally until I graduated from high school. That community that we grew up in, there was one black family on the street and six months later, we moved in, but it was a German community. On one part of the street there was a barber shop to our left across the street. There was a beauty salon. We had a Dairy Queen and that place 711 replaced there.
I find it quite interesting because of an FE apartments. We had Tony Perez, who was one of the Cincinnati Reds players, we had VEDA Penson and we had Frank Robinson. We also had Oscar Robinson say czar Geronimo and also Pete Rose. Now it was this is interesting because this was the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cincinnati Royals. And I just thought this is just wonderful that we had all these people who lived up in fey apartment, which was in our community.”
